I love to write about sports. In fact, I actually did it and got paid for it for six years for the Everett Herald. Now I just write about my own sad fandom and how my teams tend to play those lovable losers way too often.
Who do I love? The San Diego Padres, Indianapolis Colts, Seattle Mariners, Gonzaga basketball, Dallas Mavericks, the U.S. men’s soccer team, Brazil’s national team and anyone that is attempting to make history.
“The Last Dance” was a nostalgic walk through the NBA I grew up on. I have 23 takeaways about the documentary, including being able to share my NBA fandom with my kids.
As a build-up to MLB’s Opening Day, I introduce my son to the top-10 Postseason Finishes of My Lifetime.
What do you write about when we’re in uncertain times? Do you hop on the bandwagon and write something virus related? I started to and then I realized why does anyone care about the five things I’m learning and teaching my kids about during these confusing times? Baseball season was supposed to start Thursday. I … Continue reading Five Best Baseball Movies to Watch with Kids
Finding 49 things about Super Bowl 49 was kind of tough, so since I’ve sworn off Twitter, and have decided to stay away from posting “nonsense” on Facebook, I thought I would create a blog post full of 30-something things I thought about Super Bowl 49, and 15-something things popped into my head this last month. Have … Continue reading 49 Things I Thought About Super Bowl 49 (and throughout the month of January)
If you’ve read my blog for more than a few months you know that there are few things I love more than sports. My wife and kids being one of them. And actually, that might be it. As my eldest, Lukas, has gotten older he’s become more and more interested in everything sports. He loves playing … Continue reading Sports, Society and Kids
Expect more turmoil in the Johnson household when the Super Bowl rolls around. Like last year Lukas and I will be torn on who we want to win the Super Bowl. Unlike last year I won’t have to worry about my non-loving football dad yelling “Go Hawks!” and taunting me throughout the contest, and that’s not because I moved … Continue reading 2014 NFL Preview: Who Might Rain on Another 12th Man Parade?
I wasn’t afraid to share my pride, even though I was in “enemy” territory. When a silly bet came my way I didn’t totally back down from it, despite the terms not being agreed upon before they were shared with the social media world. (Really? Can you call out someone out on a bet before … Continue reading Super Bowl XLVIII: Black and Blue Monday
I can’t seem to break it through my buddy’s skull. No, I will not be rooting for “our” Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XLVIII. “But you live in Seattle!” It’s nothing against the Seahawks, Richard Sherman, Skittles or the 12th man. I’ve attended at least one regular season game in the last four years, and … Continue reading 18 Reasons I Heart Peyton Manning
Are you kidding me?! Unbelievable! Incredible! Amazing! Impossible! Miraculous! It always bothers me when media, or just people in general, use those superlatives to describe a player, or event. Well, like it or not, all those words work for Saturday night’s Wild Card weekend comeback victory that saw the Indianapolis Colts overcome a 28-point second … Continue reading Colts Win Was Filled With Superlatives!
I’m sorry Sports. It’s not you, it’s me. It’s just that I put so much heart and soul into this relationship, and I really don’t feel like I’m getting anything out of it. I’m sorry. We’re going to need to take a break. At least for a week, just to see where we stand. I … Continue reading Sorry Sports. I Need a Break.
Another story written by me and published on PopBlerd! Please check out the site! Well done NBC, well done. NBC’s useage of Diddy Dirty Money’s “Coming Home” as the promo for Sunday Night Football’s Broncos – Colts matchup was perfect. So perfect it gave me chills when I first viewed it … and a second … Continue reading Coming Home: Peyton Manning Makes His Indianapolis Return
UPDATED: With an actual “Thank You” tweet from Mr. Berry himself! Second time I’ve been Tweeted by a famous football person! (Tony Dungy thanked me for liking his kid’s book last year sometime). @kdaddy1004 thanks the kind words — Matthew Berry (@MatthewBerryTMR) September 13, 2013 Imagine being late to your own wedding because you and … Continue reading How Fantasy Becomes Life: Matthew Berry’s “Fantasy Life”
NFL Preview: Room for one more? Why I Want to Jump on the Seahawks Bandwagon, but Don’t Think There is Room!
‘Tis the season where pundits, casual fans, fans that think they are more than casual but are casual, and fans that think they are both pundits and more than casual fans but are really just somewhat casual (that’s me) make their National Football League season predictions. Last year I wrote mine as my debut column … Continue reading NFL Preview: Room for one more? Why I Want to Jump on the Seahawks Bandwagon, but Don’t Think There is Room!
