Waiting for the Call – January 30, 2006

Which news do you prefer first? The Good or the Bad? Actually it doesn’t matter, they’re both bad. Let’s start with the "we don’t know if it’s good or bad" news. Lis and I are still awaiting the call from the doctor. The call is to let us know if the leukemia cells have returned … Continue reading Waiting for the Call – January 30, 2006

Goodbye 2005! Hello ’06! – Year in Review: 2005

Lis made an interesting comment this Christmas. She said, "You know, this really wasn’t a bad year." This from a woman who was in the hospital for 30-plus days with cancer, away from her 5-month old son. This from a woman who, as she tells me this, still has a head full of peach fuzz … Continue reading Goodbye 2005! Hello ’06! – Year in Review: 2005

Our Christmas Wish Granted – December 7, 2005

Every year a local radio station, Warm 106.9 (see link on left), grants certain listeners their Christmas Wish. This year my Mom thought she would nominate us. She asked me to write something up for her but, after looking over the Warm 106.9 web site, I thought maybe I should nominate Lis instead. I didn’t … Continue reading Our Christmas Wish Granted – December 7, 2005

Certificate of Achievement – November 10, 2005

Today Lis had her follow-up doctor’s appointment. It wasn’t much of a doctor’s appointment as it was a celebration or graduation, if you will. They gave her a Certificate of Achievement for "Meritorious Conduct on Completion of Your Course in Chemotherapy" and she got her picture taken with Dr. Congdon. Not like that is anything … Continue reading Certificate of Achievement – November 10, 2005

Sleeping on the couch…for a good cause – November 4, 2005

Wow, it’s been a few days since I’ve last written. Let’s see…what has happened these past couple of days in the Johnson household? Monday was Halloween and we took Lukas around the local stores to go trick-or-treating. He wasn’t quite sure how everything worked but he enjoyed walking to the stores, reaching in the candy … Continue reading Sleeping on the couch…for a good cause – November 4, 2005

Goodbye Chemo! Thanks for your hard work! – October 28, 2005

The final round of chemo began on Monday, October 24 and ended a little before midnight on Wednesday, October 26. That’s it! The chemotherapy is officially over. Thank you God for getting us through these seven emotional months. And thank you chemo for the hard work you put into my wife to take away the … Continue reading Goodbye Chemo! Skin (Sara Beth) by Rascal Flatts – October 25, 2005

I occasionally come across "blogs" or journals that are only filled with poems, quotes or songs by other people. This sometimes bothers me, as I’m not the kind of person who does this. My journal is my original writing and I take pride in the fact I’ve kept it fresh. However, as mentioned in a … Continue reading Skin (Sara Beth) by Rascal Flatts – October 25, 2005

Dear Lukas – October 17, 2005

Dear Lukas, Happy Birthday son! One year already! Wow! Seems like it was just a few months ago when your Mom began having labor pains in the middle of the night at a campsite in the middle of nowhere. Now, 12 months later, that pain in her tummy has become the light of our life. … Continue reading Dear Lukas – October 17, 2005

Neutropenic – September 23, 2005

Neutropenia is an abnormal decrease in the number of neutrophils in the blood. Which means that after Lis gets chemo, she usually gets neutropenic due to her low blood count. Once she gets a low blood count the risk for infection increases dramatically (duh!). She could just get a neutropenic fever, which luckily she had … Continue reading Neutropenic – September 23, 2005

Some days it’s best to just stay in bed – September 21, 2005

There are those days where nothing seems to go right. It’s 9:15am, you’ve been at work for 15 minutes and you’re wondering why the heck you came into work today. Anybody ever have those days? I’m sure we all have. Here is how my day is shaping up, and it’s only 15 minutes after noon. … Continue reading Some days it’s best to just stay in bed – September 21, 2005
