May the Fourth Be With You

Capped off one of my favorite non-holiday holidays, May the Fourth, with ESPN’s Star Wars: Evolution of a Light Saber Duel. Good stuff.

If you have 23 minutes to spend watching sword fights check it out below. Pretty neat stuff. Makes me want to get into a sword-fighting class.

As most years, I don’t do too much for May the Fourth.

IMG_20160504_185354I do receive texts from some wishing that May the Fourth be with me. I wear a Star Wars shirt under my dress shirt. I listen to most of the soundtracks while doing my work. And usually I’ll put on one of the movies.

This year it fell on a Wednesday, and since I help out with our church’s youth group, and our youth group director is a Star Wars fanboy like myself (back in December we stood in line for 8-1/2 hours in the freezing cold and then the snow just to get good seats for Episode 7, and we’d do it again all day, every day if we had to), we decided to show Star Wars: The Force Awakens for our youth kids.

And since my wife works at night, my entourage gets to follow along so we enjoyed candy, popcorn and the movie in our Star Wars shirts.

I also sent out an email via the Fun Committee with the top 10 work-related Star Wars movie lines. I thought I’d share. Thanks!

As I’ve done before Star Wars has always played a big part in my life. And there are  plenty of movie lines that translate to any part of your life. For example, two years ago I wrote about 11 Star Wars phrases that described 11 years of marriage. Click here for that fun read.

In the work list you won’t find “It’s a trap!” nor will you find “The circle is now complete. When I left you, I was but the learner; now I am the master.” Though you may think it, we really don’t want our mentees telling their mentors this. Plus, Obi-Wan answered with, “Only a master of evil, Darth!” Oh no he didn’t!

Nope … here are the 10 Star Wars Service Center Quotes (movie lines, not quotes like the quotes we’re used to…you get it.)

One of the most iconic lines in the Star Wars galaxy. Pretty simple. Don’t just try it … do it!

“Pass on what you have learned.” ~ a dying Yoda, Return of the Jedi.
No explanation needed.

“All mentors have a way of seeing more of our faults than we would like. It’s the only way we grow.” – Padme Amidala,Attack of the Clones
Again, no explanation needed.

“Wars not make one great.” ~ Yoda, Empire Strikes Back
Sometimes an argument or fighting about it isn’t the best solution.

“Your focus determines your reality.” – Qui-Gon Jinn, The Phantom Menace
Stay focused!

“Who’s the more foolish? The fool or the fool who follows him?” – Obi-Wan, A New Hope
One of my favorites!

Often times it’s hard work and determination that get us to that next goal.

“Never tell me the odds.” – Han Solo, A New Hope
Don’t count yourself out.

“Use the Force, Luke” ~ Obi-Wan, A New Hope
Luke turns off his targeting computer and the people around him can’t figure it out. Well sometimes we need to go with our gut, our feelings on a situation rather than the system that was handed to us.

“Stay on target.” ~ Gold Five, A New Hope
I whisper this to myself constantly throughout the day.

Thanks for reading! As mentioned, feels good to be writing about nonsense again!
