What I’ve Been Writing About … Elsewhere!

Yes, it’s been a month since I’ve posted, but I haven’t been totally slacking on the writing.

As mentioned in my prior post my buddy and I decided to start a dad blog called United We Dad.

In the last month I’ve been doing my best to keep up the blog and my writing.

In case you missed it, here’s what’s been going on in the last month at United We Dad:

Spice

Boobs! It’s Dad vs. the Internet vs. the Innocence of His Kids!
A documentary called Hot Girls Wanted sparked a recent column about the struggles of being a dad and raising kids in this day and age where boobs (and so much more) are readily accessible.  Geez, back in my day we had to wait for the Spice Channel to unscramble for a few seconds, now you Google search “boobs” and well … you get a lot of interesting pictures.

12 Boyz II Men Songs for 12 Years of Marriage
Lis and I celebrated our 12th wedding anniversary, so similar to what I did last year when I wrote 11 Star Wars phrases for 11 years of marriage, I took one of my other pop culture loves, Boyz II Men, and wrote 12 Boyz II Men songs for 12 years of marriage. Can you stand the rain? Lis has.

Do U Even Lift Dad?
Finding inspiration in a coworker of mine, I decided it was time to get my health in gear and start watching calories and exercising regularly. After two months I’m down 10 pounds and more importantly, am feeling better on the inside. Which means, less feeling bloated, less nights of laying in bed with my esophagus on fire because of my GERD, and I don’t feel burnt out after walking up and down the stairs. Instead I’m doing sit-ups on a regular basis (at least 45 a night), attempting this new fad of planking (at least 1 minute a night), along with sprinkling in a day of cardio (at least a mile run once or twice a week) and some weightlifting. All while making sure I’m not overloading on crap food. I called the column “Do U Even Lift Dad?” and have started a journey to flatten this dad bod.

Roundtable: Avengers: Age of Ultron
My United We Dad partner, Brooks, and I decided to take our boys to see Avengers: Age of Ultron. Then we had a roundtable discussion to talk about the movie. Fun times!

Bathroom Etiquette: Now What? The Post-Potty Training Years
While Brooks attempts to potty train his 2-year-old, I talked about the struggles of teaching my 4-year-old about bathroom etiquette. An entertaining series of events sparked this somewhat entertaining column filled with potty talk.

A House Divided: NBA Finals Preview
Lukas and I previewed the NBA Finals. I was rooting for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Lukas chose the Golden State Warriors. By now you know how that fared. The cool part, I asked Lukas to pick a player the average 4th grader might not know about, but that could make an impact in these finals. He chose Andre Iguodala. Iguodala went on to win the Finals MVP. Props to my boy!

I kicked off Father’s Day week with a series of columns.

I talked about how I prefer to answer the question of “What do you do?” with “I’m a father of three.”

Prepare to well up when you read my three inspirational stories of three dads.

And then jam out (or sway) to 10 songs about being a dad that makes me proud to be a dad. Of course this one made the list since numerous people have said, “This reminds me of you!” I’ll take it as a compliment.

Finally, we closed out Father’s Day week with 10 movies about Dad.

Again, find United We Dad on Twitter @UnitedWeDad and on Facebook at facebook.com/unitedwedad.

Love you! 😉
