Chapter 3: Sei La Cunhada – July 29, 2005

I’m not going to say that Elen is my favorite sister-in-law. I don’t play favorites with my relatives. I don’t like one brother more than the other and I don’t like one sister-in-law more than the other. But I do like Elen. For one, she’s a donor match for Lis. That makes things nice. If Lis were to need a transplant then Elen would be the donor, thus saving her sister’s (my wife) life. So that’s pretty cool and makes me like her a lot.

Elen is the youngest of four sisters, and like her sisters and mom, she is a very caring person. She’s also one of Lukas’ favorite people. He was lucky enough to have his Tia here for three months. Every morning they would play games together. You could see in Lukas’ eyes that he loves his Tia. Elen also did most of the diaper changing during the three months they were here. That’s not a fun task for anyone – trust me – I don’t enjoy it all too much.

Another thing great about Elen is that she treats my family like family. My brothers are like her brothers, my parents like her parents. She was able to go out with my brothers and have some drinks or watch a movie or joining them at church.

While here Elen started hanging out with my brother Erik. I guess they broke the “brother” thing cause they seem to like each other. Earlier I had reported that she had liked him as a “friend”. I guess that was just a front she was putting on us. Mostly because she didn’t want her Mom to know she was interested. Now Erik plans on visiting Brazil, so we’ll see what happens.

Thanks for all your help Elen. You can check out her blog at And if that’s not right just check the left side of my blog for a link to her site.

  1. I am so glad that you were blessed to have family come and visit and help and make those dark days a little bit brighter. My son was born in Germany with complications and my family was able to come right away, and just having them there seem to make it just that much easier to get through. It sounds like things are heading in the right direction and I pray that they keep going that way!! Hope everyone makes it home safe and sound. Blessings to your whole family!! Shannon

  2. It is great to be able to get a long with your in-laws. I love each and everyone of mine. Poor Lukas…I hope he doesnt have too hard of a time when all of his people are gone! Good luck to you and Lis for getting used to having Lukas to yourself!!! Ha! Ha! That shouldnt take long! : ) I would love to see Elen and Erik become a couple. They are both so cute. Good luck to everyone for their returns home. Your Friend,Heidi
